France sends ambassador back to Australia
France's foreign ministerSLOTXOsaid the ambassador was sent to Australia to investigate relations and protect France's interests.
On September 7, 2021, Reuters reported that France announced that the ambassador would be repatriated to Australia. After previously summoning the ambassador to the country to protest that Australia renounced contracts to buy submarines from France and turned to buy a submarine from America instead
French Foreign Minister Jean-Yves Le Drian said during parliamentary hearings that he had asked the ambassador to return to Canberra, Australia again. It has two new missions: to consider the status of relations between France and Australia after this. and the protection of France's vital interests regarding the termination of the submarine purchase contract.
The foreign minister also stated that reviewed bilateral relations with Australia which began in 2016 and is a landmark of Indo-Pacific policy. It found that restarting bilateral relations with Australia would not affect their willingness to participate in the Pacific region. |
