The Dallas Cowboys will play a game of significance in Philadelphia for the first time in three years this Sunday, and that’s certainly worth saying out loud. The City of Brotherly Love just happens to be the last place that the Cowboys won on the road so maybe they’ll pick up their first win away from AT&T Stadium this season against the Eagles, but taking on the defending Super Bowl Champions that are coming off of a bye is a tall order.With it being the week of this particular rivalry that means that rivalry-like discussions are happening all over the place. Eagles center Jason Kelce took to the airwaves at 94WIP in Philadelphia on Wednesday morning and he accused the Cowboys fan base of being comprised strictly of fair-weather fans. The Dallas Cowboys haven’t won a Super Bowl since 1995. They’ve won two playoff games since (one of them coincidentally against the Eagles). There’s no new fans hanging around the confines of Cowboys fandom because they “fell in love” due to the Cowboys gigantic streaks of winning.It’s a bit silly for Kelce to make this type of assertion for any fan base anywhere. The Eagles won the Super Bowl and that gives them the right to talk about whatever they want in terms of on-field accomplishments, but it also means that they themselves are now experiencing an influx of bandwagon fans. There are an inordinate amount of Cowboys fans who have more than their fair share of emotional ties to the team for whatever reason is specific to them, whether Jason Kelce is able to realize that or not.These are the type of things that happen during rivalry weeks.
