Diablo Immortal sadly isn't an exception when it comes
Lost Ark, which just as Diablo Immortal, is a no-cost ARPG MMO, lets players directly purchase items to upgrade equipment from its in-game store D2R ladder items. The difference between the two games and Diablo Immortal, however, is that Genshin Impact is PvE only and Lost Ark balances its PvP so that the statistics are equal in order to provide a fair and an environment of competition.
If you ignore the PvP feature, Diablo Immortal sadly isn't an exception when it comes to popular free-to-play RPGs, and it's not doing anything which a plethora of cash-extracting mobile games haven't previously done. Microtransactions of this kind don't even represent a first for players of the Diablo franchise. When Diablo released in 2012. it featured a real-money auction house, where players could offer in-game items to buyers for cash.
with Blizzard taking a cut of each transaction. As players faced higher difficulty and progress slowed to a crawl, many felt forced to engage with the auction house to increase their level of play. Blizzard took note of feedback and finally removed the auction house from Diablo completely, as if they had learnt from the experience.
The same type of scenario played out again in Diablo Immortal -- which also has an auction house in which players can sell items like Legendary Gems to one another with a special currency that can be bought by purchasing a premium currency using real money -- is Blizzard not only failing to learn from the mistakes made in the past of the franchise, but also seeming to be determined to repeat them.
Diablo as a series is all about slaying countless demons, obtaining more powerful loot, and increasing your character's ability to conquer more and more difficult challenges. Being able to simply buy your way to success, whether it's using Legendary Crests or through the auction house that is part of the game undermines the very essence of the game buy d2r items.
