Cambodian expert team completes second phase of renovation to one of the old bridges inside Angkor Wat


Xinhua news agency reported from Phnom Penh. Cambodia on June 21 that the Cambodian Apsara Organization (ANA) reported that the restoration of Ta Ong Bridge (Phase 2), located at the Angkor Archaeological Park or Nakhon Temple in Siem Reap Province in the northwest of Cambodia complete


Lue Channora, an archaeologist at ANA's Bureau of Monuments Conservation and Preventive Archaeology, said phase two of the restoration work was focused on repairing the southern section of the bridge. Strengthen the damaged parts to be stable and restore the handrails of the dragon-shaped bridge with a length of 70 meters

“Our team has come up with plans to restore the collapsed rocks, columns and walls. including restoring the handrails of the dragon-shaped bridge to its original state during the restoration work," said Lue Channora, adding that the restoration work is to preserve the architectural value. Historical value and ancient heritage for future generations to learn the ancient infrastructure and understand the works of the ancestors' construction


For this ancient bridge is the main attraction of Angkor Wat Archaeological Park. The next phase of restoration work will focus on restoring the upper floors of the bridge. which is in dilapidated condition now


The 800-year-old Ta On Bridge was built from laterite decorated with carved sandstone. It is 75 meters long, 13 meters wide, 8 meters high and has 14 stone arches supporting the bridge's span before it began to deteriorate over time. including being affected by the weather and the pressure from the heavy structure
