The PNCR’s Sophia Literacy Project held a closing ceremony for its 2008 July/August Vacation Programme yesterday at Congress Place,Nike Just Do It Scarpe Air Max, Sophia. The programme was sponsored by the Health and Education Relief for Guyana (H.E.R.G.).The ceremony commenced with prayers by Maureen Philadelphia,Clearance Hockey Jerseys, member of the National Executive of the Guyana Youth and Student Movement (GYSM).Welcome and Opening Remarks were made by Africo Selman, who also chaired the proceedings followed by the Progress Report which is an Evaluation of the Programme by Carol Corbin, Programme Coordinator of the Literacy Project.Also delivering brief remarks was Leader of the PNCR, Mr. Robert Corbin,Wholesale Shoes China Free Shipping, M.P. who congratulated the organizers of the programme for their hard work in making the Project possible.He also stressed the need for the full support of parents and encouraged the children to make full use of the opportunity provided by the project.He said that one of the problems facing our country was the issue of literacy in many of the villages and communities of Guyana and he was pleased to know that H.E.R.G. had extended their service from health to education in giving their support to the literacy project.Also in attendance were Oscar Clarke, General Secretary of the Party,Scarpe Nike 2019 Donne, Basil Williams, M.P., Vice-Chairman of the Party, Members of the Central Executive Committee and Members of Parliament, Ernest Elliott, M.P., Mr. Keith Scott, M.P.,Cheap Jerseys Free Shipping, E. Lance Carberry, Ms. Yvonne Harewood-Benn as well as other special invitees.The audience was entertained with songs and dances performed by the children of the Sophia Literacy Project.The children were issued with certificates and gifts of school supplies. At the conclusion of the programme, brief remarks were delivered by Dr. Wayne Sampson, President and Founder of H.E.R.G. during which he pledged the continued support of that organisation to the Sophia Literacy Project; then followed the appreciation and vote of thanks by Mrs. Lyris Primo.The Sophia Literacy Project which commenced on the 5th July 2006 is part of the PNCR’s Youth Empowerment Scheme (YES) programme. There are 180 children in the project between the ages of four (4) to fourteen (14).The project consists of a Summer school and a Saturday school. At the Saturday school the children are taught phonics,A.J. Klein Jersey, craftwork, and conventional academic subjects. Nine teachers and one assistant are assigned to this school.The summer school programme consists of physical education and the making of craft. Twelve teachers are assigned to this programme.The Sophia Literacy Project was born out of the Youth Empowerment Scheme (YES) Programme which was promoted by the PNCR during its election campaign in 2006.
