| TAMPA Sheldrick Redwine Jersey , Fla. (AP)Tampa Bay’s Jameis Winston tested his injured throwing shoulder in practice and will start Sunday’s game against the Buffalo Bills. Buccaneers coach Dirk Koetter made the announcement Friday after the third-year quarterback worked with the first-team offense for the first time since spraining his right shoulder during last week’s 38-33 loss at Arizona. Winston was limited in practice Wednesday and Thursday, taking ”mental reps” while backup Ryan Fitzpatrick prepared to face the Bills. ”Jameis threw the ball well today,” Koetter said following the team’s hour-long practice at One Buccaneer Place. ”Jameis is our starter. He will be out there.” Winston has made 37 consecutive starts after entering the NFL as the No. 1 overall pick in the 2015 draft. Fitzpatrick, a 13-year veteran with 116 career starts for six other teams, replaced him against the Cardinals and threw for 290 yards, three touchdowns and two interceptions to help the Bucs (2-3) rally from a 31-0 deficit. Winston said Thursday there have been other occasions during ”my whole football career” when he’s played through AC joint injuries, ”so I’m used to the pain.” He declined to elaborate or compare the latest injury to the others. ”Every one is different. I can’t tell you about my injuries eight years ago,” Winston said. ”I can just tell you about this one.” Winston also said he wasn’t concerned about a lack of practice time potentially impacting his preparation for the Bills. ”Like I’ve said, this game (has) such a mental part. I’ve been throwing the football practically my whole life, so I know I can throw Austin Seibert Jersey ,” Winston said. ”I just think that it’s about recovery right now. ”It’s about being consistent in my reads and progressions. Only rookie center Mason Cole remains from that first group.The defense has hung in there much of the season but has been gashed for 215 and 269 yards rushing the last two weeks, its worst two games of the year in that department. Five days after being signed off the street, C.J. Anderson rushed for 167 yards — one shy of his career best — in the Rams’ 31-9 win in Glendale.Wilks called Arizona’s run defense “a virus” under his skin. He blames it on players being in the wrong places and Connor McGovern Jersey , most of all, missed tackles.This coach is all about defense. He was defensive coordinator for a season with Ron Rivera in Carolina. Before that, he coached defensive backs for five seasons. So he takes the defensive issues personally.But it’s been the offense that’s been an even bigger problem. Arizona ranks last in the NFL in every major category, and with one game left it’s hard to see that changing much.The only Arizona TD against the Rams was a trick play that saw rookie Josh Rosen throw backward to Fitzgerald, who tossed to a wide-open David Johnson for his first career scoring pass (in 15 NFL seasons). He has 115 career TD catches.Fitzgerald bumped chests with offensive coordinator Byron Leftwich when he left the field to chants of “Larry, Larry.”“Because he told me he was going to call it, so I was happy he did, and I had the opportunity to throw something,” Fitzgerald said.Otherwise, the offense didn’t do much Foster Moreau Jersey , and one play won’t make Wilks’ job more secure. A loss on Sunday would leave the team 3-13, tied for the worst since the franchise moved and the worst since 2000.When it’s over in the Pacific Northwest, Wilks will fly back with his team to hear his fate. |
