PS2 Controller 1 Port Casing Fix?

PS2 Controller 1 Port Casing Fix?

Hello all,

I recently bought a fat ps2 from Goodwill. It was in real rough shape when I got it-- dirty lens, dislodged cables and ribbons etc etc. I managed to get everything working and it can now play games just fine, but the last issue I'm having is with the player 1 port on the console. You know how there's a black plastic casing that covers the metal prong things? Yeah, that's completely broke off and gone, leaving the exposed metal rods just sticking out. It's a real pain in the ass because I'm constantly switching between a controller and a guitar and it's difficult to make the two sets of interconnecting prong things to come together. When I do manage to connect the two, the connection is pretty sporadic and sometimes I lose controller response in the middle of a game. So, I have two questions. FIrst, the plastic casing is still on the second port-- is there a way I can remove it and place it on the port 1 prongs? I tried taking a look at it, and it doesn't look like it's easily removable or like it was even meant to be removed. Second - Could I just buy a pc/usb converter thing, plug my controller into that, then plug the converter into the first usb port on the ps2 and have it be recognized as "Player 1"? That seems like the easiest thing to do, but I wasn't sure if it would still allow me to play on the ps2, not using a pc whatsoever, and still just be Player 1.

Please help.

I did not find the right solution from the internet.
